HHDF Home Pure Water Systems on the Market

Second Lady Visiting HHDF Pure Water Project

Second Lady Thandiwe Banda visited the HHDF Home Pure Water System Project in order to be informed on the progress of the HHDF program. She found the conditions regarding water quality in the rural area to be very poor and it was with great positivism she noted how the HHDF Home Pure Water System was improving the health of the people in in the Pure Water Study that HHDF has made in cooperation with Chipata Municipal Council.
This study is made by HHDF in cooperation with Chipata Municipal Council in order to find out how distribution of facilities to access Pure Water in rural areas affect the general health of people living in the villages of Chipata District. The result from the study has proven that the HHDF Home Pure Water System high quality filter solution improves the general health and livelihood of the rural people significantly. The good result in this study is supported by laboratory tests done by Health Laboratories under the authority of Chipata Municipal Council Health Inspector at two different occasions showing that the everyday water in the rural area contains very high amounts of bacteria. The same water after being purified in HHDF Home Pure Water Systems has however no bacteria content whatsoever - shown by the Chipata Municipal Council laboratory test results. Furthermore the beneficiaries of the Pure Water express a high appreciation regarding the clearness, taste, color, smell and lack of dirt, algaes, worms and decomposing organic matter in the Pure Water. The Pure Water beneficiaries also express a positive attitude regarding the pricing of the Home Pure Water System considering the fact that none of the Pure Water beneficiaries have found it necessary to visit hospital or clinic during the study period since they have started drinking Pure Water and hence have saved substantial economical costs from the use of the HHDF Home Pure Water System.

HHDF 1 Year Pilot Celebration

HHDF celebrated this weekend the first year running the HHDF Pilot in Chinyaku Chiefdom. The King celebrated with all of the eight headmen present and hundreds of people in the Dumisa village. This is an exceptional honor and the excelsior of this celebration was enjoyed by our friend the Diplomat of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Sun and his wife that highly enjoyed the celebration lasting for a full night and the whole next day of Ngoma dancing, traditional instrumentalism and long speeches by the Chief, the Headmen and the HHDF Program Manager.

Irrigation in the HHDF Agroforestry Nursery

In order to make life simpler for our HHDF orphan Guardians we have installed Irrigation systems in the HHDF Pilot Nursery where we combine our HHDF Ogre for drilling a 22.5 cm well for drawing water and a pressure pump to lift water to a barrel. From this barrel the whole HHDF Pilot Nursery can easily be irrigated by the "Agogos" in order to generate income for their voluntary caretaking of village orphans.
HHDF Rope Pump in Action

We have now the HHDF Rope Pump for testing in the HHDF Pilot Village Dumisa in Chinyaku Chiefdom. It is much more effective way of drawing water compared to using a bucket as what was used; the efficiency rises from 5 liters per minute to about 80 liters per minute.
HHDF RopePump

Through the Technical Officer Bodika Shawa we have now got our production of HHDF RopePump running. The first Pilot sample is being tested and works outstandingly.
Olives in Zambia

HHDF Experiment Farm Water Harvesting Irrigation Basin
Today we have given the education to people in the Pilot Chiefdom on how to build a water harvest Basin for collecting rainwater. The water will be used to overcome dry spells in the rain season and to produce a 2nd and a 3rd crop in the dry season of pumpkins and to keep the trees in good condition. The villagers are very content to get the knowledge of this mix of agriculture, agroforestry and geotechnical planning.

HHDF MultiOgre
HHDF has today received the donation of a Multi use ogre from FairLife Sweden, www.fairlife.se
This tool has been tested and proven to work properly for making wells, planting trees and for digging toilets in rural areas. This donation will be highly usable and will serve as model for production of Zambian made HHDF MultiOgres for HHDF Rural Industrial Business Development.

HHDF Farm Appraisal

HHDF Experiment Farm Nursery

HHDF Experiment Farm Nursery is fully operating. HHDF Camp Manager Sax Botha is bringing up various indigenous and alien species for managing a new era of cash crops in Zambia.
The initiation of rural business and industries is the 5th step of the HHDF 5 Step program creating Future by business made from the knowledge that is available in the local traditions, environmentally given and cared for – business driven cash crops from the local agriculture based on nutritious crops grown using Hi-Tech underground irrigation systems. This is now taking place in the HHDF Experiment Farm that we operate in cooperation with Chief Chinyaku.
This experiment farm project will look at three different parts:
1. The Environment of the Eastern Province: Here we will consider the typography, soil quality, precipitation and climate of the region as well as taking into consideration the natural habitats and the area. We address the fact that natural and agriculturally imposed erosion is depleting the nutrient content of the very soils and hence the crops that are taken from the land. We also regard the fact that Eastern province has an extremely high precipitation that due to high erosion can easily harm this fragile environment if the bio systems in this area. We intend to avoid further depletion of the soils through erosion and hence the crops. We address the threat that is constituted by very low micro nutrient levels in the food, resulting in a weak immune system and serious health deficiency for the population. Using trees as cash crops this is avoided. We are looking at using trees that create erosion control and also lucrative cash crops. We look at making tests on the environmental and economical function of Olives, Macadamia, Moringa, Mango, Charcoal production and the ground covering herb Pumpkin providing the highly nutritious pumpkin seeds.2. Irrigation: Eastern Province has an extremely high precipitation that, taken seriously, will deliver water to overcome dry spells instead of causing erosion; hence we can create food security for the people of the province. Used throughout the year the irrigation system will create 2 – 3 crops per year forming a new basis for health- and economy development. The irrigation will be made as an underground gravity driven catchment supporting basin that will water feed the cash crops on the hill area by underground irrigation made on different depths depending on the crop. This is made in order to completely avoid dangerous salinization the environment. The cash crops will be nurtured in accordance with organically standards using fully decomposed green manure through the irrigation system. In the dimba garden irrigation will be made by using rope pumps that through tube systems deliver water to seedling nurseries and Mango fields.
3. Industrial business invention: The different cash crops will be refined locally through rural industry carrying each cash crop to its full potential. Olives to bottled extra virgin olive oil, Macadamia to present packed chocolate macadamia dessert candy, Moringa for freeze dried food supplement and fortifier for poor and sick people, Mango to jam and dried fruit for organic export to Europe and pumpkin seeds, organically grown for export and domestic sales regarding the extreme content of protein, zinc and slowly metabolized energy contribution. The full nutritional value of this food is especially important for people with HIV/AIDS and people suffering from starvation.
In this work we are looking at cooperation with World Agroforestry Center and the Ministry of Agriculture in order to better be able to find the very best ways for implementation of different species of cash crops and methods of agricultural practices. In this work we are happy to present from our side of the cooperation our in-house personnel: Program Manager HHDF, Mr. Daniel Jinnefält – Masters of Environmental Science, Vice President HHDF, Mr. Charlton Phiri – Principal Technical Officer MACO, HHDF Camp Manager Mr. Sax Botha – Volunteer Facilitator Kaioozi Camp MACO and special advisor Mr. Michael Segerroos – Agricultural Support Program/SIDA.
HHDF Adult School Project Cooperation

HHDF have met with Kagunda School in Chiniaku Chiefdom and have initiated the HHDF Adult School Project Cooperation. This project is looking at having a program on HHDF Adult Education teaching literacy, numeracy and health. We see that in order to create real development in the society education among the general population regarding these subjects is of paramount importance. We mean that in order to take part in and drive the development the very people need the basic understanding of reading a contract, calculate on the very agreement and sign with my own name. We are happy that Kagunda School now starts the planning of how to better reach out to also the adults that have been deprived of education and that we by ambulating teaching services will be able to make the whole of society coming into development.
HHDF with Chief Chinyaku

HHDF today have initiated a full cooperation with Chief Chinyaku. The Enfumu Chinyaku fully supports the whole program of HHDF and welcomes the development to enter his Chiefdom by offering the Zulu honor of handing over a chicken to HHDF - a sign of respect and a good future with many new eggs of hope together. Chief Chinyaku has offered HHDF to initiate the HHDF Experiment Farm on his land and will initiate the 8 Headmen to look for appropriate place. HHDF is grateful for the full cooperation and look forward to the work together.
